About Karmaverse Studio
Adeeb: Hey, Wendy and Phyllis, hope you guys are doing good. I am really glad to welcome you both onboard, and thank you so much for sparing time to come and tell us about Karmaverse and Karmaverse Zombie to our community. Let’s get an introduction from you guys on Karmaverse itself
Wendy: Okay, my name is Wendy and I am working with Karmaverse. Karmaverse is a gamefi multiverse containing metaverse like Karmaverse zombie which is the most developed one and that we’re going to talk about today. And Fantasy World, Old West, Cyberpunk, and others are created by the team behind two of the top ten SLG games in mobile gaming history. The two games are King of Avalon and Guns of Glory, which generated over $2 billion in revenue and 5 million monthly active users. That’s us that’s a rough introduction to Karmawars.
Adeeb: So Karma versus a studio, right? If I get that right.
Wendy: yes, it’s a kind of studio. We are a gamefi multi-world, gamefi platform compared to the other gameplay platform. The games are from our gaming development studio.
Adeeb: Right. So when did you guys begin the journey of Karmaverse? Was it early 2001? When was it?
Wendy: Our company was established in 2013. We focused on gaming, traditional gaming, and some VC funding and the art after the company decided to go in Web3 and Karmaverse told me the first GameFi project was started in 2021 Q4 and the game was launched in April of 2022.
Why Build in Web3
Adeeb: You guys have been building games way before you started. Like in web three. You’re not like new game builders, right? That’s amazing.
Wendy: Exactly, because our team Karmaverse told me the Web3 GameFi project was created by the team behind the professional Web2 game Studio and before going web3 to the two of the games of the company already getting famous in mobile gaming history
Adeeb: Why the shift from building games in web two to web three? What did you find appealing about the whole blockchain ecosystem?
Wendy: Okay, first of all, of course, I think we’re both identifying the trend in the future. I think this is the yeah, this is why they started and later we found our game. We have some advantages compared to the other GameFi projects because our Kamawar Zombie is way more, and the gaming is way better than the other GameFi. Web3 games.
Adeeb: I can directly download it off of the Play Store itself and I don’t need a wallet to play it, right?
Wendy: Exactly. And you even don’t need to register if you download the game and you click Play as a visitor, it doesn’t require a wallet, not an email address. But if you want to make money to earn, you need to connect wallets and make a proper registration.
NFT’s in Karmaverse
Adeeb: So what’s the advantage of having an NFT itself right in the game?
Wendy: Maybe my colleague can answer this question. Are you there, Phyllis?
Phyllis: Oh Yeah, I’m here.
Phyllis: Like, first of all, for the NFT for a web3 game for block, for GameFi. so NFT is crucial in the game, right? Like it’s the asset, the first kind of asset in every gamefi project. So if you own in the Karmaverse Zombie, our NFTs can be fighters. The fighters players use in combat during PvP and PvE and also the zombies they can acquire, the zombies who they fight, the enemy and you can capture the Zombie and turn them into your fighters. So it’s really fun. And the NFT contains equipment in the game as well. So you can see NFTS everywhere in the game. So it’s like built-in. It kind of increased the fun part and also the value-added part of the game. So I think that’s the reason we have been appealing our game
Karmaverse Zombie Gameplay
Adeeb: Right. You mentioned an interesting mechanic, right, like you said you’ll be turning zombies into your allies. Tell me a little bit about the gameplay itself for people who haven’t seen or played the game, what’s the core objective of the player itself and what’s the game about?
Phyllis: Oh, sure, of course. So if you haven’t played, Karmaverse Zombie. It’s a game. The background is in a world, and the world is ruined and the survivors are fighting for their lives to survive the enemies, a lot of people or animals are turned into zombies, and the survivors leave the ruins. So they gathered the survivors like they are the fighters, they are the hirings in the game. And also they kind of built their shelter. To build their shelter, they need Metal and Tomato. That is f the material you can gain in the fight. And also they go out to search for zombies and to search for enemies to fight. So that is the background of the game. And also for the gameplay part, it is Match Three. So like I could divide it into two parts like the first part. Now it’s launched online so casual and easy to play the Match three jigsaw game. It’s like Candy Crush or any other like the match three game. So you just match three cubics and then you can generate and then fight. So the other part is the SLG, the bigger picture in the game. So it’s under development and it will be released this year. So the SLG part of the game is more strategic and more complicated.
Adeeb: Right. So I presume you’ll have leaderboards and you currently do also have leaderboards and different categories or ranks of players, right?
Phyllis: Yeah, sure, you’re right. So like we have a hall of heroes because we have written if you mentioned that we have a lot of, I think three or four kinds of tournaments, like in-game tournaments. So on a monthly base, we have the challenge; that is monthly based so like once per month there will be this kind of tournament.
Adeeb: Right, and these events are also PvE, right? And not PvP,
Phyllis: this is PvE, so there are two kinds of gameplay, right? Like PvE is players, this environment. So like you fight the zombies, they’re generated by the system and you go through like city to city, capital, capital to conquest. And also the PvP part is called Raid in the game. The raid is where you can fight other players during that time. When you fight the other players in the raid, you can earn more, like you can get their material or earn more scores to up your ranks. And also we have an alliance setting. So in the game, you can join different alliances, and only when you join the alliances you can participate in the bigger events. It’s called a craft giant. You can find the bigger zombies, the giant zombies to get worse so that is really well designed.
Adeeb: Yeah, that sounds really well-designed. Right. There’s a lot of social element that I hear from what you’re describing. So essentially if I was to the more people that I could gather as an alliance, the stronger I would be.
Phyllis: Yeah. And also you can select your members in the alliances because you can start an alliance and then you will get requests or taken to your alliance. You can either take them or keep them off if they don’t perform well or are like a contributor to your team. Or you can also send messages or gather them to fight zombies like that.
Adeeb: This looks like a game that is like it’s going to incentivize guilds more than individual players and all players want to be part of a bigger guild because essentially the biggest clan kind of has the most advantage, right?
Phyllis: Yeah. It is
Adeeb: awesome. Love the social experience that you’re building there, and would these bigger clans or alliances be able to fight the other clans? Is there a PvP mode there as well, which you just described?
Phyllis: Yeah. The Alliance Battle is a war between alliances. We launched a function in, I think, November last year. So, like, before, you can only fight the giant zombies as an alliance, and now you can fight between the alliances and, like, get ranks, like the better alliances get better rank. And these will all show in the game,
Adeeb: wait so there’s a hierarchy between clans and alliances as well. Awesome. Lots of loops there I can see, right? Which can actually draw players in because that’s what they strive for. Players usually want to be on top of the leaderboard, right?
Phyllis: Yeah. And that’s showing that on the website, you can see the top players during the past raid seasons, and when you get ranked in the raiding season, you will be generously rewarded. It’s not with the high star, like, five or four-star Nftss. And also there’s a lot of material you can use in the game.
Adeeb: Okay, that brings me to my next question. Like, you said that they earn good rewards. What is the earning system? How much would an alliance or a clan earn versus how much would an individual be able to earn? Let’s talk average, right
Phyllis: Yeah. I think we have a really complicated way to how calculate that because like in the game we have two tokens, right? In the game you can generally earn serum, serum you can earn in PvE PvP, like daily raid treasure box and bounty hunt and all kinds of events you take part in you can earn serum. Once you get to a certain level, and the certain level, I think, is stage three or four, it’s really easy to get to. I think when you start to play for a couple of days you can get to stage three or four and you can start to earn serum for the knot, you can earn knots when you join an alliance to fight the giant zombies and also you can earn knots in the challenge and also raid season and also the alliance war as well. So there are a bunch if I am talking about numbers, it’s really complicated and very detailed, cannot explain.
Adeeb: Right, the economy is complex, essentially players are earning serum tokens, right?
Phyllis: I’m sorry.
Adeeb: Essentially, players are earning serum tokens, right?
Phyllis: Yes.
Karmaverse Zombie Economy
Adeeb: But what is the Not Token about then?
Phyllis: Knot is the governance token, as Wendy mentioned before. Because Karmaverse is a gamefi platform. So, like, it’s a whole ecosystem. We plan to develop multiple games. And so knot can be used in the multiverse. So it has not only useful in the game or in one game, it can be used in every game. So, like, for example, if you are knot, you have a say in our Congress later, you have a say in our community. And knot is also a trading currency on some exchanges. So I can say, like, the knot has multiple uses.
Karmaverse Accomplishments 2022
Adeeb: That’s awesome. You guys are literally building a Dow gaming platform that has multiple games. That’s what I get from your answer, right Awesome. So let’s talk about this is something that you guys wanted to talk about. What have you achieved in the past 2022? Right? What has the year been like for Karma?
Phyllis: I will pass this question on to Wendy. All right. Thank you. Thank you, Felix. Actually, about Knot, I have something to add. We didn’t publish yet, but we kind of plan to make Knot the governance of our entire ecosystem for the moment, knot as Phillyis said is a currency you can exchange on CEX, the centralized exchange, but Serum cannot. Serum can only exchange trade in a quick swap and maybe some other swaps, but not in the centralized exchange. And if anyone holds Serum or Knot, they both can stake on our platform. Well, I believe Knot has better staking so there are more utilities and it’s more important. However, I don’t say serum is not important, but it’s very important in Kamaverse’s zombie game. All right, I’m going to move to the achievements of 2022. 2022. First of all, Kamaverse launched the game in April, and also the NFTs were sold out in April. We also completed the fundraising and raised $6 million in the private front and $2 million in the ideal and public sales. And then let me check. I think I can make a comparison between the middle of the year and the end of the year because that’s how people can actually understand the achievements there are Otherwise it’s a bit difficult to understand. As of June 2022, Karmaverse has over 49000 players, including in-game players. However, by end of last year, the player number reached over 80,000. We keep growing and Karmaverse is ranked as top three Polygon games, the top 20 games across all chains; highest. Later we build up the Binance live stream platform. Till the end of 2022, we are still at the top of the GameFi category on Binance live. Currently, there are 17,000 followers on the Binance live Karmaverse channel we have launched. Another one is the NFTs. We have the hero NFTs and zombie NFTs. And last year we launched two special edition NFTs. Those are the Santa NFT and SUN.
Adeeb: Great! That’s like a lot of things that you guys have achieved in the last year to break that down just a little bit. So how did you guys achieve that? Was it just because your game was good and people just played it? Or is it, like a certain type of marketing you guys did?
Wendy: Yes, very good question. Thank you. Kamarverse has a big community. Till the end of last year, we have 80,000; in-game players, I have checked, with some other projects that are really big members. We cannot compare to for example Stephen and other famous games. But we are still in the top tier and this is the first part. The second part is we worked very hard during the bear market. For most of Gamefi’s projects, they launched their marketplace of a staking system by a third-party vendor. However, it’s done by our own Karmaverse Those are by our own developers. Okay. This is game development. And on marketing, we worked with over 100 projects.
Adeeb: What kind of challenges are you guys facing in terms of launching the next version of the game and what you think would be like, what do you think you can do to solve those challenges?
Wendy: Okay, I’m going to be very honest on this part because I think personally, I think the challenge is the token price. People always want something when they invest. They want to gain immediately. So last year when we had FTX collapse; from April to July, the token was quite stable. People call it a stablecoin. It didn’t drop at all, but there’s been a drop since the FTX collapse. But that was quite a challenge. And we did something. We made some arrangements internally, for example, we launched the Staking system and we call everyone the holders to stake. Now the staking pool is growing every day.
The Future of Karmaverse
Adeeb: what’s the plan for 2023 for Karmaverse?
Wendy: Well, we will continue developing, working hard to make our community bigger and to have better things for the community. And the game workshop is working on the SLG game and is supposed to be launched in a couple of coming months, very soon. This is the biggest thing that we are working on.
Adeeb: Something to look forward to. Right?
Wendy: Yeah, sorry and we are kind of working to add more utilities to the knot token. I cannot tell what is it because it should be officially announced, but we kind of working on it for a few months. Since four months already. And it’s almost ready.
Adeeb: Very rightly said. Let me just see hands. We have some requests, so we’ll go to the request and I’ll also look at if we have any questions from our discord. So we have AG here. Let me add him as a speaker. Go ahead AG.
AG: Thank you very much for bringing me up. My question is that we know that many games set high costs to start digging and therefore start with a small player base. So does your project require an entrance fee or starting condition? And if so, what is the case, what are they? And do I need to hold an NFT or hold a certain amount of tokens in order to enjoy playing the game?
Wendy: Okay, I will try to answer. If I didn’t answer all of it. Phyllis, can you help me to add some info? I will try to answer first. You are asking about the entrance fee to start Karmaverse and what’s the cost, right? First of all, Kamaverse Zombie is free to play. Anyone can try it to see if they like it or not. And with the Free to play account, I think most people still can earn something, but not much. When I do free-to-play, I gain maybe $0.2. And then I stop. So if anyone wants to start the earn, they need five minimum, three NFTs. And our cheapest NAPT cost 35 Knots. Give me a second. That’s less than $2. So to buy three NFTs, you need around $5. That’s the entry fee. However, we are deployed on a polygon chain. You need the polygon address, maybe MetaMask or others.
Adeeb: nice. So let’s move on to Anna she’s a digital and NFT artist. Go ahead.
Anna: Okay What are the challenges you are trying to solve in the next six to twelve months? What role do you see that your project is playing within the web2 and web3 worlds?
Wendy: Very good question. Anna. I think we are worried less now than last year. Last year everybody was saying bitcoin can maybe go back to 8000 or kind but the biggest challenge is still the traffic. We are not going to stop our steps. We are not going to only stop when we have 80,000 players that will continually grow the market. Just last week our boss gave another indirection, and told us to go to more collaborations to develop the new market, and bring more people to the Karmaverse zombie game. Another part is we are working on the cross-chain solution. For the cross-chain solution, now we are considering a BSC chain, but it’s under discussion. Another one that is we are working on Fiat and Crypto solutions. We want to have more web2 users and if they don’t have a wallet, it doesn’t matter. I believe we think this will bring a lot of traffic and a lot of people into the community.
Adeeb: lovely talking to you Wendy. So we’ll close it out. Thanks for coming, and thanks for your time. You really expressed what karmaverse was all about really well and I appreciate you showing up. Thank you.
